Joli: (pronounced joe-lee) is the French term for pretty / attractive.

Hey Girrrrl!
Where should I Start?
OK!
So at the start of 2016, like most New Yorkers, I lived a very hectic, fast pace life! It's a real rat race in these streets! OK?! At the time, I was working in childcare and hated how much time I was missing out on with my own son who was 4 at the time. I adored the children in my care but my employers treated me horribly. I remember feeling so small, inferior and at the mercy of these people who wrote my much needed weekly pay-check. I worked 10 hour days, never got a raise, struggled to keep up with my bills and worst of all, I couldn't do what my heart desired most which was to spend more time with my son! I longed for the simple things like making him breakfast in the morning, holding his hand and chatting while walking him to school, taking him to the playground after school, spoil him with his favorite ice cream as we walked home or help him with homework! I literally saw my baby boy at his bedtime on weeknights and on weekends and I thought to myself: "THIS CAN'T BE LIFE"
I was eagerly seeking a way to spend more time with my child and the day my employer insulted me (long story), through streams of tears, I promised myself I would never allow another human to have so much control over my life, time and finances ever again! Now, entrepreneurship isn't for everyone but it is the only way for me! Thanks to that horrible employer, and my love for fashion, Jouvert Joli was born! I took all the necessary steps to establish a business in the state of New York but had no time nor money to invest in my dream. Fast-forward to 2018, my daughter was born, and I was home on maternity leave with no income. With bills to pay, I knew that this time at home was the opportunity needed to get serious about my boutique!
Now I had no experience in the e-commerce world but I took every course, went to every seminar, bought hundreds of e-books, participated in countless webinars, hired mentors, attended networking events, researched and partnered with every manufacturer/wholesale vendor from China to The U.K, Italy, France, Australia, L.A and NYC. I knew that I wanted to create not only an amazing brand but also a community where supporting and encouraging women to achieve their goals while helping them feel confident in their fashion choices was my ultimate goal!
Where did the passion stem from? Let's dive in deeper!
Growing up on the Caribbean island of Grenada, I was raised by some of the strongest, most beautiful women I've ever seen! I remember, as a child looking out of my home on J'ouvert morning and watching the free spirited people of my island on a high from a night of cultural fun. These folks would then head to town for carnival where the native women and tourists were parading and dancing freely to Soca/Calypso/Reggae/Dance-hall music just embracing our beautiful one of a kind culture while wearing the most amazingly bedazzled costumes. In creating this brand, I hope to exude the vibrance of my culture! I source and design unique, exotic and tropical pieces to make every woman feel empowered, beautiful and as free as the island breeze.
My mother, my hero, immigrated to America from Grenada 28 years ago for economic opportunity to help support our family. J’ouvert Joli is dedicated to her (the most hardworking woman I know) and the many women like her who came to this land in hopes of giving their children a better life. With our brand, we honor all the hard working women around the world, especially those who left their homeland in search of a better opportunity elsewhere. This legacy has allowed me to pursuit my dream, the American dream and in thanks I am dedicating 5% of J’ouvert Joli's proceeds to "The Dreamers" who are here under DACA looking to pursue the same dream.
A special thanks to my son and daughter, Zari and Zuri who has been the motivation and drive behind this dream of mine. And to my beautiful Grenada, which creatively inspires me and shaped my entire being.
But most importantly, thank YOU! Our Joli dolls! You are the very essence of this company! You push us every day to continue creating! I absolutely love seeing you baddies rock these looks and the way your confidence shines through when you wear our brand, brings me the most joy! Thank you for making my heart smile.
